Dr Dale Benjamin ("Ben") Speedy - Sports Physician
Dr Ben Speedy completed his medical degree at the University of Auckland in 1984. After some years as a family practitioner Ben retrained in sports and exercise medicine. He has been a Fellow of the Australasian College of Sports Physicians since 1999, and is vocationally registered as a specialist in sports medicine. Ben has also been awarded a Fellowship of the American College of Sports Medicine, and has a Masters degree in Sports Medicine from Trinity College Dublin. He is internationally recognised for his research into fluids in ultra-distance exercise, and was awarded a Doctor of Medicine degree for this work in 2002 by the University of Auckland.
Ben was the Chief Medical Officer for the New Zealand Olympic team to Athens in 2004 and the New Zealand Paralympic Team to Sydney in 2000. In addition he has been team physician to the Tall Blacks, Silver Ferns, Breakers, and Team Prada and Le Defi Americas Cup teams.
Ben is in full time practice as a sports physician in Auckland with clinics in Manurewa and Greenlane. He also is still actively involved in research and has an honorary research fellowship at the University of Auckland.
